Get To Know The Materials Used To Make Hats and Caps

Ever wonder what goes into the making of branded hats or caps? It might surprise you that there are many different materials, each with its benefits. In fact, you might have no idea how some of them are even made. Keep reading to learn the materials used to make hats and caps.

Cotton
In addition to being incredibly soft, cotton is lightweight and breathable. This makes it an excellent material for hats that protect against sunburn but allow moisture to escape your skin. It's also naturally hypoallergenic, making it perfect for sensitive skin or anyone with allergies.

The downside of using cotton is that it's not a very durable material, so if you have an active lifestyle or want something that will last a long time, it may not be a good choice. However, when treated with Tencel – organic cotton - and pre-shrunken (through artificial heat rather than natural), most people agree that its durability improves considerably; plus, you'll still get all of its other advantages, like comfort and flexibility.

Polar Fleece
This material is an insulator with a soft texture, available in various thicknesses. It’s often used to make hats and headbands, but it can also be used for scarves and stoles. While polar fleece isn’t very durable, it’s machine washable. This makes it easy to care for, although you should still air dry your hats after washing. Polar fleece is best used in designs whose natural texture will stand out; knits are better if you want a smooth fabric that lays flat against your head.

Wool
A material naturally suited to temperature regulation, wool keeps you cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather. Its fibres act as insulators, keeping body heat from escaping too quickly. It’s also water-resistant, allowing it to keep moisture from your skin without getting clammy or heavy — and it dries quickly when wet. One of our favourite wool accessories includes hats (like beanies) for keeping warm during cooler months.

Microfibre
Although it’s getting increasingly recognised in high-end athletic wear, microfibre is still a relatively new synthetic material to most hat makers. But what is it? Microfibre is a type of synthetic yarn similar to acrylic in its durability and moisture absorption. Microfibre hats are also quite lightweight, making them ideal for people who need sun protection but want their headwear to be as unobtrusive as possible.

They’re comfortable and airy — perfect for those hot summer days when you need something light. As with any new technology or material, microfibre will vary greatly depending on where it was manufactured, so keep that in mind if you choose to go with one of these styles.

Beaded Borders – Tailoring Techniques
Beaded borders are often used in tailoring promotional hats and caps. It’s important to know how to place them in such a way that they match your needs, whether along with a visor, a brim, or both. In short, you want an end result that is as seamless as possible. Therefore, beaded trims are typically used along decorative edges rather than structural ones.
